If you are aged 55–74 and have ever smoked, you may have or maybe soon sent a text message or letter from the NHS inviting you for a free lung health check.
Your first appointment will be a telephone call with a specialist Lung Cancer Screening Nurse.
They will ask you some simple questions about your general health, lung health, and smoking history.
This helps us understand your risk of developing lung cancer.
If you are found to be at higher risk, you will be offered a low-dose CT scan. This is a quick and painless scan, carried out in a mobile unit located in the community.
The Lung Cancer Screening programme (previously known as Targeted Lung Health Checks) is part of the NHS’s work to find lung cancer early, when it is often easier to treat. It also supports people who currently smoke with advice and help to quit.
